The Republic of Ireland international was adjudged to have fouled Kevin Campbell in the penalty area by referee David Elleray and was sent-off for a professional foul as Everton were awarded a penalty.
Television replays showed the versatile star timed his tackle perfectly and actually won the ball and Mr Elleray has reversed the decision after watching the incident on video which means the former Luton Town man will not serve a suspension.
"The sending off will be expunged from the records of the player and the club," the FA confirmed.
