Following the withdrawal of Leeds United's Dominic Matteo, Vogts' defensive problems have not been helped by the news that Naysmith has failed to recover from the ankle knock picked up in last Saturday's 3-1 defeat against Manchester City.
The Scots have endured a poor run of form of late, but hoped to have a near full strength squad for the clash in order to get off to a flying start against the minnows in their opening Euro 2004 Championships qualifier.
"Gary has not bee able to train this week, and had a scan on Tuesday on his damaged ankle," said Vogts.
"It's a blow but we'll cope with the Faroes. I'll need him for the game in Iceland next month.
"It's annoying for Gary, because he picked up the injury in the last minute against Manchester City at the weekend.
"He slipped and Nicolas Anelka raced through to score, but it was his only mistake of the game. He played well and he'll be back soon."
