An injury to Richard Wright in the warm up left Baardsen lining up against his former club on his debut for the Merseysiders, and he could do little about a brilliant hat-trick from Robbie Keane, that added to a close range effort from Gus Poyet in the 4-3 loss.
The Norwegian international felt that he could have done better, admitting that a knock to his hip did not help his nerves.
"I will not say that I played a good game," admitted Baardsen to VG. "It was okay.
"I admit I was a bit rusty, that is not strange because it's been a while since I played a match.
"I haven't even played for the Everton Reserves. I don't know my team-mates yet either.
"It is not an excuse, but [following the hip injury] I was in a lot of pain.
"It hurt every time I dived to the right. Of course the Tottenham players shot there every time!
"I'm not sure what happens next Saturday, or if Richard Wright will be back or not.
"I didn't know anything about starting until about half an hour before kick off. Then I was told that I was in the team. Of course I became a bit nervous.
"Robbie Keane was the big difference between the teams. He was outstanding today."
