Chapuis reveals Premiership snubs

LEEDS UNITED new boy Cyril Chapuis has revealed that he rejected moves to five other Premiership clubs before sealing his switch to Elland Road.

The 24-year-old has departed Marseille, after sealing a season-long loan to Leeds on Monday.

Chapuis was made available by l'OM after he failed to make the expected impact at Stade Velodrome.

He moved to Marseille from Rennes in January 2002, resisting the overtures of a number of English clubs at the time.

However, just four goals in 41 games followed and so the French giants decided to let him leave.

Chapuis is now hoping to kick-start his career in England and he revealed he had a number of options open to him - including Tottenham, Everton, Bolton, Southampton and Portsmouth.

"I absolutely wanted to go to England, it was my first choice," he explained to France Football.

"Several Premier League clubs contacted me: Portsmouth, Southampton, Everton, Bolton, and Tottenham, but I chose Leeds.

"I am delighted, in England everything is simpler than in France.

"There is a wonderful atmosphere in the stadiums here."
