The keeper has been at Goodison Park since signing from Tranmere in 1998, but he has failed to hold down a regular place with The Toffees.
Richard Wright's injury at the start of the season appeared to open the door for Simonsen but he failed to win over Everton manager David Moyes - with his one appearance coming in the Merseyside derby loss to Liverpool.
Simonsen has fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Nigel Martyn and the keeper believes he may well have to seek out pastures new when his contract expires at the end of the season.
"It has been frustrating," Simonsen told Sky Sports News. "I have not had a lot of first team or reserve action, so all I have been doing is training and staying as fit and sharp as I can.
"Richard Wright is here as well as Nigel Martyn, and Paul Gerrard, so it does not look too good.
"I don't see there being much first-team football for me so maybe it is time for me to move on."
