Marseille sports director Pape Diouf has revealed Everton are trying to sign midfielder Mathieu Flamini.
The France Under-21 international enjoyed a fabulous campaign with l'OM as they reached the Uefa Cup final, only to be defeated by Valencia.
Coach Jose Anigo is a firm believer in Flamini's defensive midfield talents and has offered the player a senior contract.
Although Marseille are his hometown club, the 20-year-old is deliberating as Everton could offer a wage increase at Goodison Park.
"It is an economical controversy," said Diouf.
"I will remain firm.
"It is out of the question to overpay a young player.
"If Everton proposed him é¼70,000, he should go.
"Moreover, he will not get any guarantee to be a first team member.
"I explained to him that he took Fabio Celestini's place but there could also be a Flamini for him."
