Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear is hoping to make a double swoop this week that will transform his side into genuine promotion contenders.
The former Wimbledon chief refused to name his targets, in fear of alerting other clubs, but it is believed that Leon Osman and Marlon Harewood are the players involved.
Osman is currently with Everton but is reportedly a £400,000 target for Forest.
The 23-year-old midfielder impressed during a loan spell with East Midlands rivals Derby County and may be persuaded to leave Goodison Park.
Harewood has been targeted after a fall-out with West Ham boss Alan Pardew last term.
Although the two seemed to patch up their differences, which stemmed from the forward's desire to play as an out-and-out attacker rather than in a wide midfield role, Kinnear believes he can strike a deal with The Hammers.
The 24-year-old made his name at Forest, scoring 51 league goals, before departing for Upton Park last November in a £500,000 move.
