Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright is hoping to reclaim the number one spot.Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright is hoping hard work will help him to usurp Nigel Martyn as the club's number one.
Wright made his first appearance for The Toffees in over 12 months as the Premiership side squeezed past Bristol City in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
England international Wright was dogged by injuries last season and is anxious to enjoy better fortune this term.
His performance against the League One side has lifted his morale and he is keen to remain between the sticks, for at least as long as The Toffees are in the competition.
He concedes Martyn is the preferred choice of David Moyes in The Premiership but he is aiming to grasp any chance to dislodge his team-mate from the starting line-up.
"It has been frustrating but I will just keep working hard and if I can keep performing in these one off games then I can give myself an opportunity," said Wright.
"It was nice to be back after 12 months out. Anybody who hasn't played for a while knows they need something to give them that little bit of confidence.
"But I have been working hard with Chris Woods and pushing Nigel as hard as I can and I have confidence in my own ability."
