Kevin Kilbane admits Everton have struggled following the sale of Thomas Gravesen.Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane has admitted The Toffees have struggled following the sale of Thomas Gravesen in January.
Danish powerhouse Gravesen was a driving force for Everton in the first half of the season, but the club opted to cash-in when Real Madrid came calling in January rather than lose him on a Bosman in the summer.
Everton were well clear of Liverpool in fourth place at the end of January, but their form has dipped of late and Republic of Ireland winger Kilbane admits the loss of Gravesen has had a major impact on the Merseysiders.
"People are going to think that as Thomas was a big player for us and a fantastic player," Kilbane told Sky Sports News.
"Initially when he did go we were picking up points and getting results but now we have been slipping up - probably since the end of January.
"That is the disappointing thing."
Everton will have to dig deep to fend off Liverpool and claim fourth place, but Kilbane feels The Toffees are still in buoyant mood.
"We are still optimistic," he added. "It always has been and still is and we believe in each other and believe we can get the results in the games coming up."
