Beattie boosts Blues

James Beattie has returned to training with Everton two weeks ahead of schedule.

James Beattie has returned to training with Everton two weeks ahead of schedule.

The England international suffered knee ligament damage two weeks ago and he was expected to be out for at least a month.

However, the £6 million January signing from Southampton has now provided a major boost to Toffees boss David Moyes.

"Beattie will be stepping up his rehabilitation over the weekend," said Everton physio Mick Rathbone

"We are hoping he will be ready to do some training next week, although he remains a doubt for the Wednesday game."

Meanwhile, Moyes has admitted he is awaiting the outcome of a number of contract offers.

"We have offered contracts to a lot of players and now we will wait until the end of the season for the outcome," said Moyes.

"Players have got their choices to make but there will always be an Everton Football Club.

"Whether it is a different manager, chairman or players, Everton will always be here.

"But people have many options nowadays and they are entitled to use them as they see fit."
