Alan Stubbs says Everton are favourites for fourth place ahead of rivals Liverpool.Everton stopper Alan Stubbs believes that his side are back in prime position to secure the fourth qualifying spot for the UEFA Champions League ahead of city rivals Liverpool.
David Moyes' side are currently three points ahead of The Reds and have a game in hand after they beat Crystal Palace to end a run of three defeats, and, coupled with Liverpool's dip in form after their European exertions, look well placed in The Premiership.
Stubbs is now sure that Everton have the upper hand and if they are to finish in fourth it would represent a sensational return for a squad that looked doomed after losing star striker Wayne Rooney in the summer.
However Bolton currently separate the two in the table and also have a substantial chance of qualifying for the prestigious competition if they can continue the form that has seen them lose just two league games in 2005.
Former Celtic man Stubbs insisted that Everton are in control of their destiny, and was delighted to pick up a win to relieve the malaise around the blue half of Merseyside.
"We are back in the driving seat again," said Stubbs.
"It was looking touch and go before our last game as there was a lot of doom and gloom among Evertonians, which wasn't helped by Liverpudlians in high spirits.
"I think with us beating Crystal Palace and Liverpool only picking up one point from their last two games, we're looking in a decent position."
Meanwhile reports suggest that Championship outfit Leeds will be looking to bolster their squad for a promotion challenge next season by launching a double raid on Goodison Park.
Scottish duo Gary Naysmith and David Weir are both being targeted by Kevin Blackwell, with Naysmith out of favour under Moyes and Weir entering the twilight of his career.
