Everton defender Per Kroldrup has been forced to undergo a groin operation.
Everton defender Per Kroldrup has been forced to undergo a groin operation, ruling him out of David Moyes's plans for the start of the new season.
The news will also come as a blow to Denmark coach Morten Olsen, who has now lost his first-choice central defensive partnership for the friendly with England on August 17.
The loss of Kroldrup follows hot on the heels of Thomas Helveg's injury-enforced withdrawal and Olsen will now look to blood a less experienced partnership.
Olsen said: "This is truly unfortunate for Per, Everton and the national team.
"The injury is plaguing him so much that he does not feel that he can play on at the level that he demands from himself and that his club expect.
"After discussion with Everton he has decided to have the surgery immediately."
Defensive pair Kasper Bogelund and Thomas Gaardsoe have been called up by Olsen as reinforcements.
