James Beattie says he still believes he can sneak into England's World Cup squad.
Everton striker James Beattie says he still believes he can force his way into Sven Goran Eriksson's World Cup plans.
The former Southampton forward has been banished to the international wilderness over recent months but he still hopes that, if he maintains his present form, the England coach will demonstrate that he is gone but not forgotten.
"I haven't given up hope of going to Germany. If I keep playing the way I am at the moment, and start scoring goals like I know I can, it could happen," he told The Sunday Times.
"I'm just going to keep my head down, play well for Everton and see what comes of it. If I go on one of my scoring runs, it will be hard for Mr Eriksson to ignore me.
"Well, it might not be that hard, but at least I'll put myself back in the frame."
