Phil Neville believes he can make the World Cup despite being overlooked for Uruguay.
Phil Neville has voiced his disappointment at missing out on the England squad to play Uruguay, although the Everton man still believes he can make the World Cup if he applies himself at Goodison Park.
Despite being a regular presence in Sven Goran Eriksson's plans over the past five years the versatile 29-year-old was overlooked for what is England's last friendly before they name their squad for the World Cup finals.
The former Manchester United man is desperate to avoid missing out on a third World Cup in succession and has not yet given up hope of forcing his way into Eriksson's plans.
Neville has acknowledged that the only way to make up for his disappointment is to continue his work at Goodison Park and hope the Swede takes note in time for Germany.
"I have been in the squad for the last four years really under Sven so it was a bit of a disappointment," said Neville.
"But the good thing now is that I have got 11 games to play well for Everton to make sure that I cement my place in the World Cup squad.
"Sven has said that he has not shut the door on any players outside the squad that have been named this week and it is my job now to make sure that I play well for Everton first to hopefully impress the England manager."
Toffees boss David Moyes has already expressed his surprise at Neville's omission for the match at Anfield on Wednesday night, and team-mate James Beattie has now added his voice to the chorus of support.
The striker has his own aspirations of making the trip to Germany and believes that Neville will certainly be travelling with England's final party.
"I wouldn't have thought the gaffer was very happy," Beattie told Sky Sports News.
"Phil's been playing very well and Phil himself must be disappointed.
"I don't know if it's final that he's not going to go.
"I think Mr Eriksson is quoted as saying he knows what Phil can do, he wanted to look at other players, so I'm sure Phil will go to the World Cup."
