Delroy Buckley pressed his claims for a move to Everton by helping The Toffees to earn a 1-1 draw with Columbus Crew.
The South African striker is on trial from Borussia Dortmund and was given a chance from the start in Everton's opening match of their US tour.
Buckley lined up alongside teenage ace Victor Anichebe and the duo proved to be a lively combination during the first half.
Columbus took the lead after 15 minutes when former Rangers flop Sebastian Rozenthal lashed home a shot into the top corner.
Tim Cahill headed wide for the Premiership side before David Moyes' men levelled things up on 33 minutes.
Kevin Kilbane fed Buckley and he produced a neat flick into the path of Anichebe, who finished confidently.
Anichebe was just off target with another chance before half time, while in the second period Columbus went close through Jacob Garey.
Substitute James Beattie was off target with a header, while Buckley, who missed narrowly in the first half, also came close to a goal late on.
