McFadden to scrap for place

James McFadden is fearful of losing his place in the Everton starting line-up.

James McFadden is fearful of losing his place in the Everton starting line-up this season.

The Scottish forward was a regular in David Moyes' side last term but, following Andrew Johnson's £8.6 million switch from Crystal Palace, his place is in serious jeopardy.

McFadden accepts that he is going to have to scrap hard to be included, with new arrival Johnson likely to be paired with James Beattie up front.

"It's going to be hard competition. I think I've got to fight both of them to get in," he told The Daily Star.

Rising star Victor Anichebe could also push the 23-year-old further down the Goodison Park pecking order, and McFadden admits he is concerned about where he might fit in.

"With Victor coming on as well, it is not a case of where I am going to play but if," he commented.
