Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder has moved to deny claims that he tried to cover-up the racism row over midfielder Emre.The Turkish midfielder was involved in a spat with a number of Everton players during their Premiership clash at Goodison Park last month.
Amid claims of a racist tone to Emre's remarks - he has since been charged by the Football Association with using racially-aggravated language.
Reports have now stated that Roeder tried to apologise on Emre's behalf after the game knowing possible racist allegations could be true.
However, Roeder insists he was not part of any cover-up.
"I strongly deny any suggestion of attempting or being part of a crude cover-up to anything in our game at Everton on December 30," Roeder stated on Newcastle's website.
"The fact is I only felt it necessary to go into the Everton dressing room to offer an apology because from my position in the dug-out, there appeared to be an ugly scene on the pitch involving a lot of players from both sides after we had been awarded a penalty."
Emre has until January 29 to respond to the charges from Soho Square.
