David Moyes has urged England boss Steve McClaren to select Andy Johnson for next month's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel.
Johnson claimed his 10th goal of the season in Saturday's 1-0 win over Blackburn and Moyes is effusive in his praise of what he sees as maturing performances from the striker.
Johnson earned a call-up for last week's friendly defeat to Spain but was sent home after aggravating an ankle injury.
"I don't want to tell the England manager how to do his job because it is the hardest job in the world but I think if there is a vacant place up for grabs then Andy has got to be in contention," said the Everton boss.
"He's 26 and is in his prime now.
"He has got the pace and he has the finishing ability and he has shown that he is developing the intelligence as well."
