AJ injury only a sprain - Toffees

Everton have their fingers crossed that Andrew Johnson will be fit to face Man United.

Everton have their fingers crossed that striker Andrew Johnson will be fit to face Manchester United on Saturday.

A scan on an injury Johnson suffered at West Ham at the weekend suggests The Toffees were correct in their initial diagnosis of a sprained ankle.

There were fears that the England international had suffered a more serious injury but Everton physio Mick Rathbone was able to allay fears on Monday.

"AJ has had a scan and that seems to confirm our clinical diagnosis that he sprained his ankle," he told Everton's official website.

"It's too soon to estimate recovery time but the good thing is that the player normally heals quite quickly so it's fingers crossed as far as we are concerned."
