The England international has had to endure a spell on the sidelines since the close of last season, following ankle surgery, but is now ready to resume training with the rest of his Everton team-mates.
Everton physio Mick Rathbone has been responsible for Johnson's rehabilitation and is confident the player is looking strong ahead of the new campaign.
"I have been working with AJ, he's six weeks post-op and is running, twisting and turning flat out," Rathbone told evertonTV.
"He is resting this weekend and will be back with the players on Monday."
Rathbone also relayed good news with regards Tim Cahill, with the influential midfielder having undergone his rehabilitation for a serious knee injury in Australia and Singapore.
"I have been around the world a little bit," Rathbone added.
"It is important. Tim is a major player for us and I think it was wise that somebody went across and looked at his rehabilitation."
