Everton defender Leighton Baines admits his side must tighten up at the back if they are to build on last season's successful Premier League campaign.
Last year Everton kept 14 clean sheets as they secured a place in the Uefa Cup with an impressive sixth placed league finish.
However, this season The Toffees have managed just one clean sheet in nine league outings and Baines - who moved to Goodison Park from Wigan in the summer - insists that statistic needs to improve.
Everton lost their last game 3-2 against Newcastle and Baines has admitted his disappointment.
"We did well to get ourselves back into the game on Sunday but to concede three goals is disappointing," Baines told EvertonTV.
"Maybe you could say it's a lapse of concentration. The first goal was sloppy, there were three or four different occasions we could have cleared.
"And for the third again, they had two men in the box and we had five and they managed to get a clear header.
"We've got to highlight the goals we concede. The manager (David Moyes) spoke to us about that."
Baines, though, believes the current international break will allow Everton - whose next game is against Merseyside derby rivals Liverpool on October 20th - to put in the necessary work on the training field.
"Ultimately we have to look to be positive and look forward," Baines added.
"We have some time off and time to work on a few different things with the lads who aren't going away on international duty."
