Matt Le Tissier enjoyed watching Yakubu put in a hat-trick hero performance to see off Fulham.
With the match-ball under his arm Le Tissier told Soccer Saturday that Yakubu was certainly the difference between the two teams on a sodden day at Goodison Park.
"Without question, Yakubu was the difference," said Le Tissier, "There wasn't a great deal of quality out there today, conditions weren't conducive to a great game of football.
"The first half started lively - it was end to end. The game drifted up to half time and then just after the restart Yakubu decided to intervene.
"There was a little bit of controversy about the goal because Tim Cahill was stood in an offside position when the ball was lobbed back into the penalty box and his shot was saved by Antti Niemi before Yakubu finished it off.
"From then on in you didn't really fancy Fulham."
Le Tissier enjoyed watching Yakubu and drew comparisons in himself with the laid back Nigerian.
"He's never been about work-rate," said Le Tissier, "he has a decent scoring record and when he is scoring you want him in your team.
"But that kind of player will come in for criticism if he's not scoring goals; if he's not putting the shift in, as I found out to my cost down the years!"
The former Southampton striker was impressed with Everton's solidity and strength in depth.
"They're very well organised - each player knows his job well - they're a good solid outfit.
"Andy Johnson and James McFadden came on in the end and if you have players like that on the bench the squad looks healthy."
More than 80 per cent of Fulham's goals against have been conceded in the second half of matches, but Le Tissier felt that the defenders could do little about all three of Yakubu's strikes..
"Once you've done it a few times it does ingrain in your mind. I'm not sure you can pin point any one player in particular for it.
"They were probably a little harshly done by for the first goal but after that there was a bit of brilliance from Yakubu for third goal and the second was a set piece that was very difficult to defend against.
"There wasn't a lot they could do about the goals really."
