Everton are now hoping that Tim Cahill will be fit for the start of the new Premier League season.
Cahill is currently continuing his rehabilitation after undergoing an operation to cure a long-standing metatarsal problem at the end of the last campaign.
Toffees manager David Moyes admitted earlier this month that he did not expect the Australian to be fit for the club's opening game of the new season against Blackburn Rovers on 16th August.
However, after spending the past week in his homeland, the midfielder has now linked up with his Everton team-mates in the United States.
His progress in the last fortnight has led Everton to believe that Cahill could be available for the visit of Blackburn in under three weeks' time.
Assistant manager Steve Round told the club's official website: "He's running now and everything seems to be going on the right track, touch wood, so we're looking to have him fit and ready for the season."
