Everton defender Joleon Lescott has backed his team-mate Tim Howard after the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Lescott nodded his side into the lead on 27 minutes and, had it not been for an uncharacteristic mistake from Howard, the Toffees could have been celebrating a surprise victory.
Instead Steven Gerrard collected Fernando Torres' flick through and fired left-footed under the former Manchester United keeper at his near post.
The goal earned Liverpool a replay at Goodison Park a week on Wednesday although the hosts will be disappointed to not have finished the game on the night.
Liverpool dominated possession at Anfield but could not find a way past Lescott and Phil Jagielka, who were both formidable at the back, after Gerrard's 54th minute strike.
Despite the American's error the former Wolves defender does not blame his goalkeeper over the result.
"Stevie (Gerrard) is a world-class player and any time he gets into the penalty area, there is going to be danger," the 26-year-old told the Liverpool Echo.
"Tim might feel disappointed but, shortly after that, he made a world-class save from Stevie and you have to remember he's been doing it all season.
"We certainly won't be blaming him.
"We were confident at half-time that we could hold on to the lead. Our defensive play has been good but it wasn't to be."
