Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle has stated rising star Alex Smithies will not be leaving the Galpharm Stadium for anything less than £1million.
The 18-year-old has been in fine form for the League One outfit this term, but his 18-month contract with the West Yorkshire club expires this summer.
The Terriers had been hoping to agree a new long-term contract with the teenager, but interest from higher league clubs have helped talks grind to a halt.
"We have been working hard to sort out a new contract with Alex recently," Hoyle told the club's official website.
"We offered him a new deal which was turned down, so we went back to his agent and asked what terms it would take to keep him at the club.
"We offered him those terms to the penny and we expected him to sign the deal a week last Monday, but due to interest in Alex from clubs such as Spurs, QPR, Portsmouth, Chelsea and Everton the goalposts keep moving.
"We don't want to unsettle Alex or the club and as a result, it may well be that it will come down to a tribunal in the summer.
"We still want Alex to sign and be a part of our long-term plans here at the club but if he does leave, there will be no hard feelings.
"The current season is of great importance to us and he has a job to do here first. I have told Nigel that we should not consider any bid for Alex that is below seven figures."
Meanwhile, new signings Anthony Pilkington and Lionel Ainsworth are both available to Tuesday's league match at Yeovil Town after passing medicals over the weekend.
