Bayern Munich director of sport Christian Nerlinger has revealed that the club may not necessarily sign a new full-back in the January transfer window.
Everton's Leighton Baines and Genoa's Domenico Criscito are two left-backs that have been linked with moves to the Bundesliga champions in recent weeks
Bayern did not strengthen their squad in the summer and had a poor start to the season, but they are now up to sixth in the German top-flight.
Diego Contento has put in some much-improved performances at left-back and Nerlinger says it is not imperative to add another full-back.
He told Tz: "I don't think that we desperately need to sign a new full-back.
"You just have to look at what Diego (Contento) has achieved. He has played really well recently and that really has to be honoured."
Manager Louis van Gaal recently admitted that it may have been an error not strengthening his side during the summer after their tricky start to the campaign.
But after an upturn in form Nerlinger says any incoming players must be of a superior quality to what Bayern already have on their books.
He added: "We will only get active if the quality is considerably greater than what we already have."
