Manager David Moyes believes it is crucial Everton attract new investment if they are to compete with the teams at the top of the Premier League.
Reports suggest Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright is in touch with several groups over the possibility of major investment into the cash-strapped club.
Moyes welcomes the development and believes Everton must have better financial backing if they want to establish themselves as serious contenders in the top flight.
"The chairman is genuinely trying to sell the club and he always has been, he's said that," Moyes told Sky Sports News.
"I think it's good news that there are people out there that are showing an interest in buying Everton.
"That's what the chairman wants and that's what we all want so we can see if we can start competing a little bit closer to the teams at the top."
Moyes believes Everton, regular top-10 finishers over recent seasons, are an appealing target for investors.
"Anyone who knows anything about football would pick Everton because of the history of the football club. It's got a terrific fanbase," he said.
"In truth it's not that far away from the summit of the league. It's been very close. I think it is a good investment."
