Jason Koumas had given Tranmere the lead after just seven minutes, but this was possibly the worst thing John Aldridge`s men could have done as the league leaders then showed why they are running away with the league.
Lee Clark levelled things after 21 minutes and then former Arsenal forward Luis Boa Morte put The Cottagers in front just seven minutes later. Boa Morte completed the scoring after just five minutes of the second half.
Dean Holdsworth went back to his former employers Wimbledon and gave Bolton all three points with a goal 12 minutes from time.
Watford were cruising after half-an-hour of their game with West Brom, after a Paul Butler own goal (1) and Tommy Mooney (27) had given Graham Taylor`s side a two goal lead, but a Lee Hughes header just after half time gave The Baggies a much needed boost, and just ten minutes later they were back on level terms when Espen Baardsen scored an own goal.
Jason Roberts then gave Gary Megson`s side an unlikely lead after 63 minutes, but just when victory was on sight, Mooney grabbed the equaliser with just ten minutes left.
Nottingham Forest suffered a second successive loss at home when Q.P.R, recorded a 1-0 win at the City Ground.
Gillingham managed to refound their home form with a very good 4-0 home win over Preston.
Crystal Palace came from behind to draw 1-1 with Crewe at Gresty Road, as did the revitalised Huddersfield who were denied at Portsmouth by player-manager Steve Claridge who equalised with just 13 minutes left.
Grimsby pulled themselves out of the relegation zone with a comfortable 2-0 win over Norwich City and Stockport also recorded a 2-0 win over Barnsley.
