BOLTON KEEP UP PRESSURE ON ROVERS

BOLTON kept up their hopes of automatic promotion from Division One with a 2-0 win over Wolves at Molineux, while Huddersfield grabbed what could be a vital point in the relegation battle with a 1-1 draw with Wimbledon and Watford beat Gillingham 3-0.

Sam Allardyce's men moved to within a point of Blackburn thanks to goals from Dean Holdsworth and Michael Ricketts.

The Trotters will now be hoping for Graeme Souness' side to slip up against Preston to leave them with a real chance of an automatic return to the Premiership.

Watford, with many players perhaps trying to impress incoming manager Gianluca Vialli, secured a comfortable 3-0 away win at the Priestfield Stadium against Gillingham.

An away win that would have been welcome before the play-off spots where all sewn up was ensured by goals from Heidar Helguson, Tommy Smith and Paolo Vernazza.

Graham Taylor's side were held in the first half but the first goal came just six minutes after the break and The Hornets did not look back from then on.

Lou Macari's Huddersfield side are still not assured of First Division survival, but moved a point nearer to safety with a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park against Wimbledon.

Gareth Ainsworth gave Terry Burton's side the lead just six minutes after the break but The Terriers grabbed a share of the spoil after 74 minutes through Kevin Gallen.

Huddersfield should now be assured of their First Division status as they stand five points clear of the drop zone with just two games to play for the clubs below them.
