After admitting failure in bids to land Pascal Nouma and Kiko Narvaez, Allardyce is considering the merits of the 24-year-old, with a trial spell being set up ahead of a proposed loan move to The Reebok Stadium.
Bonnal has struggled to fulfil the early promise he showed in the Principality, and managed only one goal last season, but his talents have caught the attention of a number of English clubs in the past.
Sunderland were particularly keen on the tricky forward, and Peter Reid may even have advised his close pal Allardyce to take a look at one of his former targets.
Charlton, Norwich, Southampton, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been linked with Bonnal over the past year or so, and many scouts were present to witness his performance in the recent friendly with Fulham.
Allardyce has been particularly active in the French market recently, viewing a number of possibilities, but his side have maintained their incredible start to the season, even without any recent additions being made to the squad.
