Mendy arrives at The Reebok Stadium with the option of turning his stay in the North West into a permanent deal if he impresses in The Premiership.
The 20-year-old would cost in the region of £4 million next summer and snubbed French outfit Lens to link up with The Trotters.
In moving to Bolton, Mendy will renew acquaintances with former PSG team-mate Augustine Okocha who quit Parc des Princes for The Reebok earlier in the summer.
Trotters boss Sam Allardyce was delighted to have completed his fourth capture of the summer, after beating off stiff competition to land his services.
Ç£It is a boost for the club that we are able to persuade Bernard to sign for the club," Allardyce told the club's official website.
"He's a very young and highly-rated full back, and to get him from under the noses of some top European clubs is amazing.
"He'll create further competition for places in our defence."
Mendy revealed that two of his former PSG team-mates persuaded him to opt for England instead of staying in France.
The youngster contacted Okocha and Manchester City ace Sylvain Distin, and the pair persuaded him that England was the best place to further his career.
