The prolific striker's current contract expires at the end of the season and as yet he has not been offered a new deal with Alan Pardew's side.
The 27-year-old is unhappy not to be offered a new deal after his performances for the club, and would be ready to leave if a new contract is not put on the table.
"I don't want to leave Reading because I love it here, but if I'm not offered a new contract soon I may have to," said Cureton.
"I need to get something sorted one way or another."
Bolton Wanderers are thought to be rivalling Charlton for Cureton's signature, although The Addicks seem to be in pole position.
Cureton has banged in 48 goals in 74 starts for The Royals since his arrival from Bristol Rovers, where he was equally as prolific.
Curbishley could shell out around £400,000 for Cureton and Reading would be willing to do business as he could leave for free in the summer.
