The 32-year-old Dane has a wealth of experience, having played in the Champions League with the Greek giants, and is looking for one last move abroad before finally hanging up his boots.
He told Danish newspaper BT: "It is important for me to get my future sorted out as my son is about to start school.
"I hope to be able to sign a two or three-year contract, which will probably be my last contract abroad.
"I have talked to an English club which is in the middle of the Premier League and I also know that a German club from the upper half of the Bundesliga have shown interest."
Bolton and Aston Villa have been linked with the player and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce may look to replace Bernard Mendy with the Danish international.
Mendy, who spent the whole of last season on loan at The Reebok, is set to return to France with Paris Saint Germain, despite Bolton's attempts to try and keep him.
Michaelsen is keen to tie up a deal as soon as possible but realises he may have to wait some time to secure the right move.
"My contract expires at the end of the year and therefore Panathinaikos might choose to extend it with me. Otherwise I can go on a free transfer."
