Palmer had been looking to bring in the England Under-21 international to Edgeley Park following Old Tidman's departure to Sheffield Wednesday.
Evans is hot property at the moment and Palmer is aware that he would be more inclined to make a move to a Premiership club instead of his Second Division outfit, so has now targeted the experienced Davison.
"We knew other clubs would be interested in Rhys so Bolton's interest comes as no surprise," said Palmer.
"We are currently looking at a number of other options one of which is Aidan Davison, but we haven't made an offer for him yet as he is not the only keeper we're looking at."
The 35-year-old Davison would bring a wealth of experience to The Hatters after just being released by Bradford City.
Palmer is meanwhile looking to hold talks with former number one glovesman Lee Jones.
Jones had been placed on the transfer list after Palmer lost all trust in him, but he is now satisfied that he could have a future with the club.
"I'm going to sit down with Jonah when I get back from holiday," said Palmer.
"My goalkeeping coach said he feels Jonah may be able to do a job for us and if that's the case we'll see what we can do.
"He did have a bit of a problem with his starting position last season but if that's sorted we'll see if we can do something."
