The French international midfielder is also coveted by Paris Saint Germain, with coach Vahid Halilhodzic preparing to throw in midfielder Edouard Cisse, who spent last season on loan at West Ham United, into any deal.
Pedretti though said a call from Marseille boss Alain Perrin came out of the blue but told him a deal at this stage would be difficult as the Stade Velodrome outfit would face problems raising the funds for the transfer.
"I really didn't expect that," Pedretti told L'Equipe. "Because since the time people have talked about me going to Paris or Marseille, I have not had direct contact with an official.
"Perrin confirmed he wants me and asked me what I wanted to do next season, if I was tempted by the Marseille challenge.
"He also wanted to know if I already gave an agreement to another club.
"Alain Perrin explained to me, at the moment, my transfer would be difficult to settle on a financial level, because the club still has a lot of players under contract and he needs to sell."
Although not opposed to a move away from Stade Bonal, Pedretti admits he would have no problem remaining with Sochaux to help boost his chances of a place in Les Bleus Euro 2004 squad.
"You have to grow up, and leave the family nest," he added. "Today I feel ready to take up the challenge proposed by PSG or Marseille.
"But leaving for one of those clubs is not the easiest solution for me one year before Euro 2004.
"That is why I will take some time to think about it."
In the likely event a deal for Pedretti is struck, Sochaux will seek Metz's Gregory Proment to replace him, but PSG have also stated they are interested in the player.
In other news, Sochaux have reportedly registered an interest in bringing Barcelona outcast Philippe Christanval back to France.
Bolton Wanderers are also thought to be keen on the former Monaco stopper, but with Nisa Saveljic refusing a contract extension, Sochaux will press hard for a new defender as they prepare to embark on a Uefa Cup adventure.
