Lowe and co see off Uruguay

Jamaica stunned Uruguay 2-0 in a friendly in Kingston with a strong South American line-up well beaten by the hosts.

Rushden & Diamonds' top scorer Onandi Lowe opened the scoring in the ninth minute. After Ricardo Fuller won a free kick, the powerful Lowe stepped up to blast a fierce set-piece past Gustavo Munua.

Tyrone Marshall, one of the best players on the pitch, set up Jermaine Johnson for the clincher with eight minutes left. Johnson, currently on loan at Oldham Athletic from Bolton Wanderers, rounded substitute keeper Luis Barbat to delight the home crowd.

Uruguay wasted a glorious opportunity to draw level in the 34th minute when Donovan Ricketts, also on Bolton's books, kept out Ernesto Chevanton's penalty after Fabian Davis was pulled up for hand-ball inside the box.

"The players did well and they stuck to the task," beamed technical director Carl Brown afterwards.

"This is the best performance we have seen from the Jamaica team in the last two years."
