Sam Allardyce praised Nicolas Anelka and Jussi Jaaskelainen after the Pompey win.
Sam Allardyce was full of praise for his goalkeeper and main goal-getter after seeing his Bolton side get the better of Portsmouth.
Record signing Nicolas Anelka scored what turned out to be the winner in a 3-2 victory over Harry Redknapp's men while Jussi Jaaskelainen produced several fine saves to cement the win.
It was Anelka's eighth goal in nine matches after the former Arsenal hitman made a slow start to life at the Reebok Stadium.
"Anelka showed some of the form today we've been expecting and he helped us to get the set-pieces that we thrive on," said Allardyce.
"He's hit a good run of form and we've got goalscorers now which have allowed us to see them (Portsmouth) off."
Allardyce also saw Jaaskelainen keep his side ahead with great saves from Andy Cole and Niko Kranjcar.
"There were some terrific saves by both goalkeepers so this game had everything," said the Bolton boss.
"Harry will be very disappointed to come away with nothing but it is another terrific three points and another terrific performance. It's a fantastic result moving into the new year for us.
"If I have to point a finger at the players it is that we can't afford to keep going one goal down. That is something we'll have to work on especially with Liverpool coming up on Monday."
With the transfer window opening on Monday, Allardyce claims he is content with the players at his disposal.
"I'm happy with the squad we've got," he said.
"We've had to rely on the same group of players over the Christmas period but their fitness was crucial in the end."
