Sam Allardyce has confirmed that David Dunn will not be joining Bolton.
Sam Allardyce has confirmed that David Dunn will not be joining Bolton, with the midfielder expected to return to former club Blackburn.
Dunn looked set to sign for The Trotters after a fee was agreed with Birmingham and the 27-year-old passed a medical at The Reebok Stadium.
But Rovers made a late move for Dunn and were granted permission to talk with the one-time England international.
Allardyce fully expects Dunn to complete a return to Ewood Park and has given up on his attempts to bring him to Bolton.
"David will not be joining us. It is disappointing, but when Blackburn came in for him he wanted to return to them," Allardyce told the club's official website.
"I still maintain we would have given him the best environment to resurrect his career, but if he doesn't want to come here there's nothing I can do.
"He is a Blackburn lad and he wants to go back there and play for his hometown team again."
