Lee flattered by rumours

Bolton boss Sammy Lee insists none of his star players are set to leave the club.

Bolton boss Sammy Lee insists none of his star players are set to leave the club.

Speculation has surrounded the futures of record signing Nicolas Anelka, striker El-Hadji Diouf and skipper Kevin Nolan. Arsenal are reportedly interested in Anelka, Diouf is said to be a target of Sam Allardyce whilst Nolan is attracting West Ham.

Lee's squad returned to pre-season training on Thursday and the Wanderers manager regards the rumours as a compliment to the standard of the members of his team.

"They are Bolton Wanderers football players," Lee told The Bolton News.

"There is nothing I can do about speculation and I fully expect them to start pre-season with us.

"Because we have quality players, people are always going to speculate."

Lee is determined to strengthen his squad before the new season opens against former boss Allardyce's Newcastle side on 11th August.

He has already added Jlloyd Samuel, Gavin McCann and Danny Guthrie to the team and is reportedly chasing Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse and Belgian international Thomas Buffel.

"There's always a natural turnaround and I think it's nice when you bring new players in that add a fresh impetus," Lee added.

"We really are trying to take it on a stage further.

"They have qualities in abundance and will add freshness to our squad. There are an awful lot of qualities that they possess which will enhance our squad.

"It's not a case of numbers it is about quality. I can't put a timescale on it but we've been working hard all summer to bring in new faces."
