Eagles defender sidelined for a few weeks

Crystal Palace look set to be without skipper Patrick McCarthy for a few weeks due to a groin injury. The Irish centre-back had to be replaced shortly after half-time during the Eagles' 3-2 defeat at Sheffield United on Saturday after pulling a groin muscle. However, Eagles boss George Burley has revealed that influential playmaker Darren Ambrose could return for the visit of Doncaster this weekend. He told skysports.com: "We are hopeful that Darren will be back for Saturday, but with that type of injury we just couldn't risk him for the Sheffield United game. "Obviously, Owen Garvan will be missing now after being sent off on Saturday and Paddy McCarthy could be out for a few weeks after pulling a groin muscle.

Frustration

"We are getting some key players coming back from injury though and we are looking stronger in each game we play in at the moment." The Championship strugglers had to battle on with 10 men for more than half of the five-goal thriller at Bramall Lane after Garvan was given two separate bookings for dissent following the award of a penalty to the hosts. "You can understand why Owen is frustrated because it was never a penalty in a million years," Burley added. "He maybe swore out of utter frustration, but if you use a wee bit of common sense then I am sure that just a booking would have sufficed. "It is a man's game at the end of the day and it wasn't like he grabbed him or went face-to-face with the referee."
