The 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at the Vetch Field, is believed to have suffered damage to his cruciate ligament, meaning that he could be out of action for over six months.
Club physio Richard Evans told the club's official website: "With this type of injury, and the way Nathan is looking, it's difficult to give an accurate diagnosis in the first 24 hours, and until after a scan, but I would suggest that it looks like cruciate ligament damage.
"If that is the case, then Nathan is looking at possibly as much as eight or nine months on the sidelines. We will just have to wait and see, but I'd be surprised to see him play again for us."
