The Potters had looked to be coasting to all three points after they took control of the match with two goals in a minute from Chris Iwelumo.
The striker opened the scoring for the visitors in the 63rd minute and he put them in firm control with a second just a minute later.
Blackpool fought their way back into the game and they pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute through top scorer Ormerod.
Ormerod then earned the home side a share of the spoils with his second goal just six minutes later to stun Stoke.
Reading moved into the top four with a comfortable 2-0 win over struggling Wrexham at the Madejski Stadium.
Nicky Forster opened the scoring for the home side in the 69th minute and Darius Henderson made sure of the victory with the second six minutes from time.
The result leaves Wrexham still struggling at second from bottom while The Royals continue their recent good run of form.
