The Royals fans have helped complete the deal after receiving a £100,000 bonus from the proceeds of their official website and that money has been used to fund the transfer.
Reading are believed to have paid a nominal fee to Charlton for the former Crystal Palace ace, who has signed a two-and-a-half year deal.
Salako has impressed during his three-month loan deal at the club and Royals boss Alan Pardew was keen to complete to help boost their hopes of promotion.
"The money from our internet site has made it possible to fund Salako's signing," Reading chairman John Madejski told the club's official website.
"Our site was recently ranked third of 73, which is why we received such a substantial payment.
"I'm delighted that our supporters have made such a direct contribution and I am sure they will be pleased we have used the money in this way."
