Sunday tabloid reports suggested that Reading were looking at bringing Winterburn to the club in the summer in a coaching capacity, but the Division Two leaders have moved quickly to dismiss the speculation.
The 38-year-old full back is expected to hang up his boots in the summer after an illustrious career and it has been rumoured that he would like to move into coaching when he calls an end to his playing days.
Reading have also been linked with a move for Brentford midfielder Paul Evans in Sunday's press reports, but chief executive Nigel Howe has rejected both stories out of hand.
"Neither of these stories have any substance," Howe told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, the club have labelled reports linking Ipswich with a possible move for highly-rated young striker Darius Henderson as mere speculation.
Henderson has been in superb form for The Royals this season netting 10 goals and local reports have suggested that Ipswich were tracking his progress, but the club are unaware of any interest.
"It is just speculation," a spokesman told planetfootball. "This story was out two months ago but there is nothing in it."
