Reading say they have not lodged a bid for Bristol City striker Leroy Lita.Reading have dismissed suggestions they have lodged a bid for Bristol City striker Leroy Lita.
Lita has been the shining light in a season of disappointment for The Robins and reports claimed The Royals had submitted a £1 million offer for the striker in a bid to lure him to The Championship.
City quickly dismissed the talk, saying they would be 'surprised' if Reading had the money to finance such a move, and The Royals have moved to clarify their position by saying no bid has been tabled from them for Lita.
Although admitting they hold an interest in Lita, Reading chief executive Nigel Howe insisted no bid had been tabled.
"Leroy Lita is clearly a very good prospect, and we are aware that he is being looked at by a number of clubs," Howe told the club's website. "However, we have not made a bid for him.
"Our director of football Nick Hammond did have a general end of season conversation with Bristol City where Lita was mentioned, along with a number of other topics, but that has not resulted in a bid."
Howe did admit manager Steve Coppell is considering his options in the transfer market.
"It is well known that we are looking to add to our squad and we are considering a number of options, but as always we would like to conduct those discussions behind closed doors rather than through the media," he added.
"We will comment properly through the official channels as and when deals have been completed, but in the meantime supporters can rest assured that we are working hard behind the scenes to add to our squad."
