Robson may loan Ugo

West Brom may now look to sign Middlesbrough centre back Ugo Ehiogu on loan.

West Bromwich Albion manager Bryan Robson may now look to sign Middlesbrough centre back Ugo Ehiogu on loan for the rest of the season.

The former Boro manager is keen to bring the former Aston Villa defender back to the club he started his career with 16 years ago.

Robson attempts to land the 33-year-old initially hit a snag after fears that Boro centre back Gareth Southgate had a suspected broken ankle.

Those fears were allayed and Robson told Sky Sports News on Friday that he expected the deal would be completed next week.

However, the former England captain could now be looking to take Ehiogu on loan and deferring his decision about making the deal permanent until the summer after learning that the defender's contract still has 18 months to run at The Riverside.

It remains to be seen how the deal for Ehiogu unfolds, as Robson looks to get some new faces in before the close of the transfer window.

The Baggies look to be nearing a deal for Artmedia Bratislava Jan Kozak after the 25-year-old impressed on trial at The Hawthorns.

Boro striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is also a reported target for The Baggies, while Reading pair Dave Kitson and Steve Sidwell have also interested Robson.

Meanwhile, Robson has called for managers who take bungs from agents to be kicked out of the game for good.

Robson made the comments after Luton Town manager Mike Newell revealed on Thursday that he received offers of bungs from agents.

"If a manager takes a bung from an agent, he should be sacked and never work in football again," Robson said.

"If you are a manager, you get paid to manage the club. The other side of it is just not on."
