Steve Staunton has hinted that he is not concerned by Dave Kitson's indecision.
Steve Staunton has hinted that he is not concerned by Dave Kitson's apparent reluctance to commit his international future to Republic of Ireland.
Staunton is keen to go down the route of utilising players who qualify to play for the Irish through their grandparents and he had discussions with Reading's top goalscorer.
Kitson did indicate that he was not willing to pull on the green jersey, saying: "I would feel like a hypocrite if I stood in the way of someone 100 percent Irish, who would give anything to play for his country."
Staunton was rather nonplussed when quizzed on the matter.
"It's for Dave to sort out," Staunton told Sky Sports News.
"I had talks with him but, through what he's said in the press, he's made his feelings known and that's it.
"First and foremost, players with the ruling need to want to play for Ireland.
"Secondly, they have to be better than what we have in the squad."
