Reading striker Dave Kitson has suffered yet another setback in his bid to return to action.
Kitson has not played for the club since the opening day of the season and has now been ruled out for a further six weeks after having his appendix removed.
The forward fell ill on Wednesday morning and underwent an appendectomy, which will now keep him out until well into January.
The latest fitness blow is Kitson's third of the season after he injured his knee in the opening day win over Middlesbrough, in which he scored.
He was close to a comeback last month, only to suffer a hamstring problem which delayed his return.
Royals boss Steve Coppell was then expecting to have Kitson back for the busy Christmas period, but will now have to wait until January to call upon the forward.
