Reading striker Dave Kitson has hit out at the club's bosses over their pre-season preparations - believing it left them at a disadvantage to other Premier League teams.
The Royals played a pre-season tournament in South Korea which Kitson believes set the team back.
He believes the club went to Asia to make money when they should intead
have been preparing their players for the season ahead.
Kitson fumed: "Going to Korea meant we didn't do a proper pre-season. We went there to make money and shouldn't have.
"We were not as fit as we should have been for the first few weeks.
"Yes, we played a few games - but we couldn't do anything in between. It was so hot. You couldn't play a game and then do high-intensity running as you would just die."
He added: "I lost a stone in one game, how can you say afterwards you have had a proper pre-season?
"We were already behind everyone else."
This poor preparation has meant Reading are struggling in the Premier League this season after their heroics last term.
They are currently in 13th spot - just three points above the drop zone - after losing their last three games.
Kitson believes taking points from Saturday's home game against fellow strugglers Middlesbrough is vital.
He said: "We need a win and once again a home game becomes vital after an away defeat."
