Adam Federici aims to use his loan spell at Southend United to boost his prospects of breaking into the Reading team.
The Australian goalkeeper has joined Southend on a month-long loan after the League One club lost regular No.1 Steve Mildenhall to injury.
Federici is set to start Friday's game against Leyton Orient and is looking forward to his time at Roots Hall, where Reading team-mate Hal Robson-Kanu is also on loan.
During his time at Reading, Federici has yet to start a league game and is keen to put pressure on Marcus Hahnemann when he returns to the Madesjki Stadium.
"I need games and Southend United is a great club, so I am looking forward to starting against Leyton Orient on Friday," Federici told Southend's official website.
"Over the last few years I have been lacking playing regular football and I just need a few matches under my belt to help my career along.
"Marcus has been at Reading for a long time and played a lot of games, so it is hard to displace someone who is performing week in, week out.
"At some point I needed to go away and play a few games to come back stronger and even more determined.
"Hopefully I can do that and help Southend out of a situation along the way also."
